Dreams do come true. It sounds like Ansel Elgort is back on the market, after admitting in a new interview, to mark his seriously hot GQ Men of the Year cover, that he’s having fun dating following that rumoured split with his long-term girlfriend.
20-year-old Ansel is one of six celebs to feature on GQ’s annual Men of the Year special edition covers, with his The Fault in Our Stars co-star Shailene Woodley also getting a super sexy cover of her own. Ansel also gives a pretty enlightening interview in the mag, meeting up with the writer in Amsterdam, one year to the day after he wrapped TFIOS in the Dutch city. Reading the interview, it looks like Amsterdam is a lucky place for Ansel, especially when it comes to love. It’s where he shot the most memorable scenes with Shailene for Fault, and while we’ve still got hope these two could one day be a thing, it looks like Ansel is enjoying the dating game.
It was reported back in August that the actor had split from his high school sweetheart, ballerina Violetta Komyshan, just a couple of months after the LaGuardia High School graduates went public at the Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week. According to Us Weekly, it was “young love” and the pair split because “they tried to navigate his commitments, but between filming and press for the movies [it got difficult]“. A few months on and it looks like Ansel is enjoying being single again for the first time in years.
Ansel is the perfect cover star
During the GQ interview he talks about his run-ins with the paps, and his unique way of dealing with the intrusion that has only really hit his life this year. The writer reveals that during their time together in Amsterdam, “Ansel meets a girl, and they make a plan to grab waffles. By the time they’re done eating, a mob of fans and photographers has gathered out front,” so charming Ansel goes outside and takes snaps with every fan before asking them to head home so he can carry on with his date. On the day of the interview Ansel is again with this mystery girl, and they’re taking a cab together before a pap starts following them.
“I’m pretty good with faces, and I recognize him from last year, when he was hanging around the filming of The Fault in Our Stars,” explains Ansel. “And so I ask the driver to pull over, and I get out of the car and go up to the guy and say, ‘Hey, man, how have you been? Listen, I know you have a job to do, but I’m with this girl, and we’re on this date, and we’re just trying to go to some park to hang out some more, and I don’t think we’re gonna be able to do that if you follow us.’ I was basically saying, Can you find it in your heart not to cockblock me? And you know what? He got on his scooter and turned around.”

So not only is Ansel dating, he’s also one of the most charming men on the planet! Whoever this new girl is, it sounds to us like Ansel is simply enjoying being a 20-year-old heartthrob and the pluses that come with that title. But he’s not planning to sleep around. Later on in the interview he insists the positives of fame for him are to do with work, not play.
“What’s changed is: ‘Oh, you can go to this restaurant,’ or ‘You can go to this nightclub,’ but I’m not really interested in that,” he says. “I don’t really care that some trashy girl, like, now all of the sudden wants to f**k me. That’s not really that interesting to me. What’s interesting to me is the fact that creatively I can do anything now and people will pay attention, and if I suck, hopefully they will stop paying attention very quickly, but if I’m good, then I have my foot in the door, and people have paid attention, and I did a good job, and people are like, ‘Oh, wow!’ That’s sweet!”
